TPP has officially launched a new integrated referral solution that allows GP practice teams to refer patients to the Pharmacy First service directly from within SystmOne.
This long-awaited development is fantastic news for our SystmOne practices. While EMIS practices have enjoyed a built-in referral process, SystmOne users have previously had to rely on workarounds such as the Ardens template or PharmRefer — the latter being a standalone platform requiring multi-factor authentication, which often created access barriers. This new integrated solution is a significant and welcome improvement.
The system is called the Booking and Referral Standard (BaRS) — an NHS interoperability framework that enables practices to send digital Pharmacy First referrals quickly, securely, and in a format that is useful for both practices and community pharmacies. In addition, this advancement supports two key priorities outlined in the NHS Fit for the Future 10-Year Health Plan for England (transitioning from analogue to digital and shifting care from acute to community settings).
