What is a Nursing Associate?

Nursing associates work across all four fields of nursing: adult, children's, mental health, and learning disability. Your skills and responsibilities will vary, depending on the care setting you work in.

You will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
Your duties are likely to include:

  • undertaking clinical tasks including venepuncture and ECGs
  • performing and recording clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations and pulse
  • participating in chronic disease management clinics
  • Administering medications
  • General treatment room activities for example, dressings, wound management, assisting in minor operations and contraception advice
  • Health promotion and wellbeing

We aim to support you as part of our workforce in General Practice, facilitating access to the Registered Nurse Degree ‘Top-up' programme through supportive career conversations.

Opportunities

Opportunities for funding the ‘top-up' is through the Northamptonshire Primary Care Training Hub; To be eligible for the course, candidates must have at least 2 years o experience in a healthcare setting and typically need to have completed GCSE Maths and English Grade C/4 above, or have Functional skills level 2. And have completed your Nursing Associate Foundation Degree.  Eligibility for funding for this program will be determined during an Academic Funding interview.
