Access to University Courses

Northamptonshire Primary Care Training Hub works very closely with Health Education England, Universities and key stakeholders. The aim is to support you as part of our workforce in General Practice, facilitating access to places on the accredited modules / programmes required.

You can select and access academically accredited modules/programmes from any provider, not only those in Northamptonshire. Therefore, your range of options is extensive.

Funding is limited to meet demand. However, there may be funding streams we can direct you to that might provide a contribution towards this cost.

There may be occasions where the Training Hub announces on our website, opportunities to apply for certain accredited modules / programmes. They are likely to be the modules / programmes where demand is higher (e.g., Advanced Assessment Skills or Advanced Clinical Practice). These are courses that have minimum requirements and may require an interview stage. Usually these are applications to University courses. There will be several stages before being booked on a course. This may include the completion of a ‘Funding Request’ online form and the support of your practice manager. The date indicated will be the closing date for applications to be submitted. Please be aware that in some circumstances there may be backfill monies available for a practice supporting a staff member on a funded and accredited course.

Requests for places may increase on those certain modules, whilst other accredited options are less requested. Whether the module/programme you wish to enrol is showing on our website, please follow the process to enrol:

Application process:

Please note:

1.    Applications that fall outside the Application Process will not be considered.

2.    Making an application and going through the interview process is not a guarantee that you will be given the funding. It is not an automatic process. To receive funding, you must be successful at the interview stage.

 Approval and interview process:

All approved EOIs related to accredited modules / programmes will be called for a short interview. This interview intends to understand your ‘education pathway’, to ascertain your knowledge about it, determination and commitment to enrol, as well as to successfully complete the module / programme, and to ensure you are supported by your employer. The Training Hub will consider criteria such as (but not restricted to):

  • Does your application relate to the provision of education and training?
Is your application supported and approved by the Practice?
Have you supported students in placements?
Have you provided formal Clinical supervision?

The interview outcome will be made available to you shortly after, with the possible outcomes:

  • Successful, please apply to the University (the Training Hub pays the University)
Unsuccessful (feedback is provided and alternative options)
    Require more information

Non-completion of the course

Where an individual withdraws from the course, fails to complete the course, or does not commence the course, full or part reimbursement for the sum provided to the Practice may be requested by the Training Hub.
